Madakasira is a small town and also a mandal in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh State in India, located closer to Karnataka border.
This place is of tourism interest because of the the Hill Fort around this place, which is declared as an Archaeological site by ASI. This fort is also is of huge human face appearance that the visitors and picnic goers admire its wonderful formation.

Madakasira houses a few ancient temples in its vicinity which include Doddeswara Swamy Aalayam Temple at Hemavati. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is in the form of a huge 6 foot idol. Black basalt granite Nandi measuring 8 x 4 feet is at the entrance. The other temples which are also Shivalayas are Siddheshwara, Malleswara and Virupaksheswara shrines.

The Shiva temples around Madakasira are constructed during 8th Century AD by Pallavas who ruled this place and the sculptures of temple were done by Nolamba artists. These sculpture images are fixed to the walls of these temples depicting tales and incidents relating to the two great epics of India, namely Ramayana and Mahabharata.
These Shivji temples are located at Hemavati part of Madakasira and some of them are in a dilapidated condition.

Hemavathi is located about 35 km west of Madakasira and in 160-km distance from Anantapur, which was the Pallava capital during the 9th – 10th centuries. This place is, therefore, a repository of impressive collection of Pallava and Chola architecture. It is in the south west of village Hemavati, the traces of an earthen construction lie, which part is now known as the Hill fort.
